Provider Bio

Liisa Freure is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Master of Education (OISE, University of Toronto) and over 35 years of experience supporting learners of all ages, including those with learning challenges. Her journey has been shaped not only by her work in the classroom, striving to meet the needs of struggling learners, but also by her personal experience as a parent of children with learning challenges. She is a Certified Education Advocate, CERI Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist, Accredited Training Fellow with the Orton-Gillingham Academy, and trainer with Orton-Gillingham Canada.
A long-standing member of the International Dyslexia Association (since 2007) and former two-term President of its Ontario Branch, Liisa currently serves on the IDA Fact Sheet Editorial Board. Her extensive professional development includes evidence-based literacy programs, linguistics, and Structured Word Inquiry (SWI).
Liisa is the founder of Fundamental Learning, a private educational consulting and tutoring practice and and is a training provider for the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) and Orton-Gillingham Canada (OGC). She develops high-quality literacy resources and provides workshops, conference presentations, and customized training for educators, schools, organizations, and families—both in-person and online—to advance evidence-informed literacy instruction.
