Kari Fotis is the founder and owner of the Hampton Roads Dyslexia Center. A retired special education teacher with nearly 20 years of service in the public school system, Kari developed a passion for working with students with dyslexia early on in her career. Kari is a certified Wilson Dyslexia Therapist and Structured Literacy Specialist with the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). HRDC offers screening, testing, and diagnosing of dyslexia, dysgraphia, child study, RtI, eligibility, IEP advocacy, and tutoring services. Additionally, Kari is an educational consultant with Oceanside Evaluations.

- Other Professional Certifications Held: Kari graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Education in Special Education Curriculum and Instruction from the College of William and Mary. She is a Wilson Language Dyslexia Therapist and a certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist with the Center for Effective Reading Interventions (CERI) a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). In addition to testing and teaching, Kari contributes to the community and fellow educators through speaking engagements on the science of reading at the local, state, and national level, most recently at the Virginia State Literacy Association (VSLA) Conference and as a featured speaker at the Tutoring Success Academy Summit. Kari serves as a guest lecturer at Christopher Newport University and for The College of William and Mary’s Law School students with the PELE Advocacy Clinic.
