M.J. Bilgrav is a co-founder and executive director of Durango Mountain Camp and Rocky Mountain Camp which are intensive 5 ½ week language immersion programs for diagnosed dyslexic students ages 11 – 16. Both camps are accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy. The camps' highly personalized academic programs provide an hour daily of the following: One on one Orton-Gillingham based tutoring, individualized study hall, composition, and oral/silent reading. The camps also provide an outstanding summer experience through an exciting selection of uncommon outdoor pursuits. These challenging activities help develop creativity, enhance self-esteem, foster individual strengths. Before moving to Durango in 1996, MJ was the co-founder and co-director of Pacific Quest Outdoor Adventures which specialized in group outdoor adventure education programs in Hawaii and the Pacific. M.J. has been teaching dyslexic students for the past twenty-six years and conducting Orton-Gillingham trainings for the past ten years. Until recently, she taught English and math at a small private high school that boasted a 60% dyslexic population. She is currently head of the OG tutoring department at The Liberty School in Durango where she also tutors and provides Orton-Gillingham trainings.
