Mrs. Rachel Philbrick is a wife, mother, home school educator, and certified special education teacher (Maryland license) with six years of experience helping students with reading and writing disabilities master literacy skills, including reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting. At the age of eight, Ms. Philbrick was identified as having a specific learning disability, called “dysgraphia,” and her life was transformed by a beloved teacher and her parents who taught her to spell and write. Today Ms. Philbrick uses direct, explicit, systematic, sequential, and multisensory Orton Gillingham strategies to help her own students unlock the reading and writing code. In addition to maintaining a Maryland teacher licence, Ms. Philbrick is an IMSE Orton-Gillingham Certified Teacher and a Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher certified by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Ms. Philbrick has completed 105 hours of training in Orton Gillingham methodologies and is passionate about empowering students and parents to cope with learning differences so that students can succeed academically and pursue their life’s work.
