Provider Bio

Regina Staffa, B.B.A, CDT, LDT, CALT is the mother of three children with dyslexia and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. She received her Certified Academic Language therapist training from the Scottish Rite Dyslexia Center of Austin in 2009 and has been working with students who struggle in reading for over 10 years.
Regina is the owner and founder of Academic Therapy Center LLC in 2010, providing academic therapy to student’s pre-k – adult. Her company has worked with over 500 students and families supporting students with learning challenges. In addition, she has provided consultation support for the Lake Travis, Austin Independent School District, and Killeen School district in supporting academic programming and reading evaluations.
She is a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). She served as board member and executive board member of the local Austin IDA branch for six years and currently volunteers on the outreach committee.
She founded and co-founded several programs at Mills Elementary in Austin Independent School district to support students and parents struggling with learning differences.
She served on the Committee of the Special Education Advisory Council for Austin Independent School District 2008-2013 and remains an active advocate for children with special needs.
Regina has won numerous professional and community awards working with children with learning challenges. She was the recipient of Austin Branch of IDA Scholarship 2007 and 2008, winner of the Aylett Royal Cox scholarship from ALTA 2008, voted finalist for Tutor of the Year in Austin Independent School District 2007 and Finalist for Volunteer of the Year Austin Independent School District 2008.
She has been a speaker at the Texas Education Agency 2009 Dyslexia conference and a presenter at the International Dyslexia Association annual convention in 2010 sharing how parents can initiate and provide early reading support to their child’s school.
Regina was a Learning Strategist /504 coordinator for St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, a private college preparatory school in Austin, Texas for four years before returning to private practice full time in 2018.
Regina is trained in dyslexia programs developed the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning disorders at the Scottish Rite Hospital, Neuhaus Institute in Houston, Wilson programs through Region 13, Comprehension instructions through Rawson Saunders, dysgraphia training at the Karnik Institute and Handwriting Without Tears. She has attended numerous workshops and trainings all over the country to further her education in supporting dyslexic students in all areas of academics.
She has just completed Memory Interventionist Training under the direction of Dr. Milton Dehn, who is one of the leading experts in North America supporting children and adolescents with memory impairments achieve academic success.
In addition, she is currently enrolled in a professional certificate program in Learning Differences and Neurodiversity: Specialization in Executive Functions through the Landmark College in Putney, Vermont which is a private college exclusively for those with diagnosed learning disabilities, attention disorders or autism and a leader researcher in supporting students with learning challenges.
Ms. Staffa received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas in 1988. Her prior work experience included ten years in the newspaper industry in various management positions including Senior Manager of Circulation Sales and Marketing at the Houston Chronicle, Houston, Texas 1988-1998.
