The Knowledge and Practice Standards serve as the basis for the Center’s accreditation of university and independent teacher training programs. The university reviews began in 2012 and are conducted every two years. The university review period typically runs from February through April. Applications are due July 1st of the previous summer.
CERI will consider the review of any program that can demonstrate its strong alignment with the Knowledge and Practice Standards. Programs that have been reviewed for accreditation include undergraduate and graduate reading programs, special education programs with a strong reading component, reading endorsement programs and certificate programs.
CERI also conducts reviews of non-university, independent teacher training programs on a periodic basis. These programs must also demonstrate that they cover all areas of the Knowledge and Practice Standards in sufficient depth.
