The Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) is pleased to announce the launch of our updated website (www.effectivereading.org) and refined professional educator certificate/certification and fee structures!
The updated CERI website contains all necessary information for an individual to pursue certification; however, a Certification Handbook containing all information from the site, will be available for download by October, 2018.
Individuals who renewed their Dyslexia Practitioner (now Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Interventionist) or their Dyslexia Therapist (now Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialist) certifications in the past 30 days will have their certifications extended by a year. CERI will issue a printable certification with an updated expiration window to these individuals via email by December 1, 2018.
IDA’s recent audit of CERI’s certification initiative revealed inconsistent messaging regarding requirements that graduates of IDA Accredited Programs must meet in order to be eligible for a certificate or certification. To bring greater clarity to this matter, the CERI website now includes a complete listing of IDA Accredited Programs with alignment to the certificate/certifications they are approved to prepare candidates for.
The audit also revealed that certain Accredited Programs were permitted to advance their program completers for certification without these completers having to sit for and pass the examination formerly known as the Certification Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (CEERI).
To bring equality to the certification initiative, CERI will permit program completers from all IDA Accredited Programs to apply for certification without having to sit for and pass the CEERI examination, or as it is now referred to, the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI), provided they have completed their program of study between the program’s initial Accreditation start date (see IDA Accredited Programs listing) and September 1, 2018. CERI will not be awarding refunds to individuals from Accredited Programs who have previously taken either of the above-referenced examinations. After September 1, 2018, all applicants for certification must sit for and pass the KPEERI, as described on the CERI web site (see above link).
On behalf of CERI’s Board of Directors, we thank you for your continued investment in improving outcomes for at-risk readers and readers with specific learning disabilities, including Dyslexia.
