In 1999, I began teaching Adult Basic Education and realized the strong connection between dropping out of high school and having a Learning Disability. My research in wanting to help my students overcome their print-based reading disabilities led me first to Joan Knight's Starting Over program, then to Barbara Wilson's methods, which I have been using for over a decade. I have taught second through 6th graders in public school settings in addition to working with teenagers and adults in identifying and addressing Dyslexia. My own son, who is currently 11, has diagnosed Dyslexia and ADHD, which has given me a parental perspective in addition to my professional perspective. My son has taught me a lot about the Dyslexic brain, and I am grateful to him for it. I enjoy working with children with a variety of differences, including ASD, Dyslexia and ADHD.
