Kelly Ann BlackStructured Literacy/Dyslexia Interventionist

Provider Bio

After working as a meeting planning professional for 15 years, Kelly's focus and primary interests changed from business to education in 2014, following her young son’s dyslexia diagnosis. She then dedicated her time to studying dyslexia assessment and instructional best practices for those with language learning differences. She greatly enjoys advising parents who are just beginning the dyslexia journey with their child, as well as teachers who are looking to learn more about dyslexia in order to help their students. As a Dyslexia Practitioner certified by both the International Dyslexia Association and the Wilson Academy, Kelly is certified to diagnostically teach reading and encoding to students identified with language learning differences. She is trained in the intensive Wilson Reading System and has also completed coursework in the Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy instruction. She earned the Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia from the University of Georgia in May 2019 after successfully completing a practicum and coursework focused on dyslexia studies. She has completed training in the Wilson Reading System's 4th Edition in January 2019, and is able to utilize Wilson's newest instructional materials for students who are just beginning the program. Kelly is not currently accepting new clients as she works on her M.Ed. in Educational Psychology at UGA, but is happy to help refer parents to other qualified providers.

On the side, Kelly enjoys managing background acting roles in the Atlanta film industry for both her son and daughter, along with a few for herself. She also stays active in the dyslexia community through involvement with the International Dyslexia Association and Decoding Dyslexia Georgia.
