Provider Bio

My name is Leana Malinowsky and I’ve been a practicing educator since 2008. I currently teach first grade, but I have experience teaching all grade levels, with seven years experience teaching first grade, and five years teaching second grade. I graduated from Kean University in 2008 with a B.A. in English and Special Ed. K-12, minor in Psychology, a P-3 Certification, and my M.A. in Instruction and Curriculum K-5. I also took American Sign Language courses at the community college level.
I completed my post- masters certification as a reading specialist at Kean in 2013. I have taught first and second grade general ed, special ed, ESL, and Tier 3 students.
I currently serve as the Associate Counselor for Delta Rho, Kean’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society for Education. I served as the Membership Chair for KDP at large from 2018-2020. In 2018 I received the Regional Chapter Counselor Award for the Northeast.
I helped lead Delta Rho become a three-time ACE (Achieving Chapter Excellence) chapter, and in 2019, our chapter at Kean was the recipient of the Florence B. Stratemeyer Award for chapter excellence, (known as the ACE of the ACE award). We were recognized as the top chapter in KDP for the biennium.
I’ve had the honor to publish two articles in The New Teacher’s Guide to Overcoming Common Challenges; Curated Advice from Award Winning Teachers. I’ve also had articles published in the Teacher Advocate journal with KDP, Scholastic Parent and the NJEA Review. I’ve been a featured presenter for KDP, The Teaching Channel/Learner’s Edge, Scholastic, ISTE Ten, Teachonomy, Teach NJ, and I’ve presented for the NJFEA Tomorrow’s Teachers program. I’ve been featured on several podcasts such as EduMagic and New Teacher Talk.
I am the 2022-2023 Middlesex County Teacher of the Year, and was a top-four finalist for State Teacher of the Year. I’ve also received the Teacher of Honor award from KDP.
I am the recipient of the 2023 Winslow Coyne Reitnouer Excellence in Teaching Award from Learning Ally.
I am an IMSE Orton-Gillingham Certified Educator, and have my CERI Certification as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist. It is my goal to continue my journey of lifelong learning to be an IMSE Specialist and CERI Dyslexia Specialist. I tutor students individually and in small groups to support their learning of reading/literacy and writing. I have been using IMSE’s multisensory methods since 2015.
