In addition to a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a French minor, a master’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in Spanish, I currently hold the following educational certifications: principal, supervisor, National Certification as an Educational Diagnostician (NCED), Learning Disability Teacher Consultant (LDT-C), ESL, Spanish, and French, IBCCES Advanced Certified Autism Specialist, IBCCES Board Certified Cognitive Specialist, teacher of the handicapped and elementary generalist (K-8). I also have certification in the Orton-Gillingham approach to multisensory reading instruction through the Dyslexia Training Institute and certification as a structured literacy teacher through the International Dyslexia Association and Center for Effective Reading Instruction. I have over 10 years of combined world language and ESL teaching experience at the elementary, secondary, and college levels in addition to over 9 years of experience on the child study team.

I am currently a learning disability teacher consultant where I conduct educational evaluations and case manage special education students as a member of the child study team. I have case managed both in and out of district students as well as completed educational evaluations at preschool, elementary and high school levels. I have helped plan and lead professional development for teachers related to best classroom practices related to special education as well as provided support to classroom teachers within the classroom towards individualizing instruction, making appropriate modifications and accommodations and meeting the needs of each student. I have also mentored new child study team members, brought special education compliance issues and solutions to the attention of the appropriate personnel and helped develop spreadsheets and calendars to keep the team organized and prepared for meeting deadlines. I also have been working as an independent contractor conducting bilingual educational evaluations for other school districts through educational agencies.

In addition, I have handled some litigation cases which helped increase my knowledge and application of special education law. I have also successfully facilitated the transition for out of district students to return to appropriate in district programs. As a case manager, I am responsible for setting up transportation and out of district placements, facilitating communication between parents and teachers, leading IEP meetings, observations, and suggestions for classroom teachers, transitioning high school students for appropriate postsecondary outcomes, and ensuring that students’ IEPs are being implemented appropriately.

My greatest strengths include but are not limited to: bilingual in Spanish and English, expansive knowledge of special education law, curriculum and program development, teacher mentoring, inclusion, parental involvement, professional development presentations, transition of students to postsecondary outcomes, and transition of students to in district and out of district programs.
