Melissa ArgieStructured Literacy/Dyslexia Interventionist

Provider Bio

I am a passionate scholar, educator, advocate, and social justice warrior. I have designed and implemented differentiated educational experiences for a diverse early childhood population throughout my teaching career, devoting the last decade to learning how to help children with intensive learning needs. During that time, I witnessed children like my niece struggle to read despite the school's curriculum and interventions. I became determined to seek the knowledge necessary to ensure all children became effective readers, writers, and spellers. I received Ohio's Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) professional development and, in conjunction with my Masters in Reading Science studies at Mount St. Joseph University, I discovered the scientific reading research behind Structured Literacy, a proactive way to prevent, not remediate, reading failure. I further pursued training in Orton-Gillingham, an explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instructional approach used for those students with the most intensive needs. Using Structured Literacy and the Orton-Gillingham approach, I provide effective, research-based literacy instruction for all children and continue to advocate for every child's right to high-quality, research-based literacy instruction.
