Shannon Shafer has over 19 years of experience in education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at Concordia University. Her Master’s in the Art of Teaching was obtained through Marygrove College in Detroit, MI. Shannon's career began with teaching grades K-6th and reading intervention. After being trained through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE) in 2005, Shannon became passionate about helping each and every child learn how to read. Shannon used this Structured Literacy approach for over 10 years with tremendous success in all grade levels. Because of the progress with her own students, Shannon began mentoring other teachers in this approach. Shannon Shafer completed two intensive practicums with IMSE as well as a Train the Trainer program where she earned a Level 3 Master Instructor title. She joined IMSE’s 25-year mission to bring Orton-Gillingham to all teachers and students as a trainer. Mrs. Shafer is also an IDA-CERI certified Structured Literacy Interventionist. As a lifelong learner and teacher, Shannon continues to support teachers and students through her passion for literacy.
