CERI Updates

Statement Regarding Relationship Between CERI and the IDA

The Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) has long been established as a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing high-quality certification for educators in teaching reading to all students, including those with reading difficulties.

Historically, CERI’s governing documents included language that positioned the organization as a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), which limited CERI’s ability to directly administer its own finances and operations. In recent months, the CERI Board of Directors updated its bylaws to align the organization’s governance and operational authority with its legal status as an independent nonprofit organization. These updates ensure that CERI can directly administer its programs, finances, and operations in an efficient and responsible manner.

These governance changes do not alter CERI’s mission, programs, or commitment to the educators and organizations we serve. Our certification pathways and standards will not be changing. CERI’s brand and reputation are built on certifying high-quality teachers of reading, and we remain committed to upholding and strengthening those certification levels.

These updates also position CERI for its next phase of growth. We will continue to expand our reach to equip more educators through our certification pathways and to support the field through the development and dissemination of practical applications of current research. We look to hire a newly created leadership role and remain focused on ensuring that educators have access to rigorous, practice-based preparation grounded in the science of reading.

CERI values its longstanding relationship with IDA and the broader reading community and looks forward to continued collaboration in service of educators and the students they support.
