Erin Washburn, Ph.D, is a Professor of Reading and Elementary Education and Co-Director of Teacher Development at the Mebane Early Literacy Center in the College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. At UNC Charlotte, Dr. Washburn teaches courses in literacy assessment and intervention and co-directs enhanced clinical experiences through the UNC Charlotte Reads Program in partnership schools. Grounded in the belief that access to high-quality literacy instruction is a human right, her research focuses on teacher knowledge of literacy-related constructs and dyslexia, the effectiveness of school-based and out-of-school literacy interventions, and the use of data-based decision making to improve literacy instruction.
